And it wasn't just the twilight franchise that made a profit; the success of fantasy films such as Twilight has even led to a huge surge in the popularity of science fiction and fantasy novels among older children and teenagers. According to Patrick Sawer and Robert Mendick: "Sales of sci-fi and fantasy have grown by almost 20 per cent in the past five years with industry analysts identifying the 'Twilight Effect' as the main reason.... Researchers at Mintel found that almost one in three older children and teenagers enjoy sci-fi/fantasy books, up from 18 per cent in 2005" One writer whose sales have seemed to increase as a result of the popularity of Twilight is Neil Gaiman. He is an English fantasy writer most notable for writing The Sandman graphic novel and Stardust. Even though this may be a pure coincidence there are many other authors who have seen an increase in sales after the Twilight. So love it or hate it, the Twilight series is so popular, it even affects the sales of other books, and there is no doubt it has had a major impact on our economy.
P.S. on a side note, I just watched breaking dawn part 2 recently and it was surprisingly really good! If you haven't yet, you guys should watch it :)

Hey Amy,
ReplyDeleteAs usual, always a pleasure to read your posts. BUT, seeing as there are likely tons of others in the class whom are huge fans of the series, I will leave it up to them to carry the business discussion. Though an advocate of anything that encourages students to read, this sci-fi stuff just ain't my cup of tea. Vampires, etc. just don't do it for me!
I am not a big fan of Twilight I prefer Harry Potter. Hearing that this is the last movie makes me happy :D anyway I believe the success comes from the teenage demographic aspect as opposed to male adults, I am uncertain about female adults such as moms though. Overall glad to hear it's done hopefully I don't have to watch another commercial with a man taking his shirt off for no reason.
ReplyDeleteI don't really like Twilight. It looks like this movie is very popular. I don't think that I ever seen a movie with those ticket sales and dvd sales.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit like almost ever other teenage girl, I loved Twilight for awhile. You know it was very popular for a long period of time. Girlfriends would drag their Boyfriends to the theater and it would become a great romantice movie. Whether you like it or not this series made a lot of money and great hits. It had many advertisments and sold many items such as shirts, posters, jewlery and many other novelty items. The movie industry certainly made lots of money off of this film. It made great profit.
